Beginner guide: the first waves
The castle sits on the left. Attackers come from the right. Your heroes stand on the wall, and the bottom bar is the team. An early store screenshot, around wave 98, shows five hero slots open and five still locked, with a 2x speed toggle. A much later screenshot shows nine slots and a 3x toggle. Slots are not all available at minute one. I cannot publish the exact wave that opens each lock, because no post lists them. Two public guides disagree with each other (castle level 10 versus a training ground around wave 20, and a fourth slot at castle level 50). Those stay as separate claims, not a merged unlock chart.

Turn on auto, then leave
The 28 Oct 2026 post is the idle pitch: Auto Battle makes heroes, turrets, and cannons attack and cast on their own. The Boss Key hides the window, including the taskbar icon. The launch post repeats both, and adds that the game is single-player with no microtransactions. Speed buttons (2x, 3x) are visible on screenshots. I am not telling you a best speed. The screenshots simply prove the control exists.
Mine, talents, blacksmith
- Mine screenshot: a human miner at level 14 showing 3.2 million gold an hour, and an orc miner tied to diamonds. Upgrade lines on that same screen mention blueprints plus gold. Another guide prints 2,400 gold an hour. I keep the screenshot figure and drop the other rate, because the screenshot shows a level and the other number does not.
- Talent screenshot: five pages and 399 points spent on that save. A tip on the screen says that fielding at least one physical hero and one hero of any element grants 10 percent physical damage and 12 percent of that element. That tip is visible text, so I quote it. I do not have the rest of the node list.
- Blacksmith, from 14 Sep 2026: enhance, enchant, and reforge substats. The 31 Oct post points stuck players at rift gear and then this forge. The 17 Aug playtest raised the castle level cap from 70 to 150 and said nine heroes could be deployed. Whether the full game kept 150 as a cap is not restated in the launch note, so I will not call 150 the retail cap.

When a wave stops you
Use the rift. The studio said so before launch. Fallen Angel is one boss you can see on a store image. Take the gear to the blacksmith. The Solar Turret is optional pressure: it buffs the attackers and pays more coins and experience. Skip it if the wall is already failing. Demon Lord Tower floor 1 was made easier on day one. Higher floors are not described.
The first heroes you can name with confidence are the ones in the news: Cryomancer with Fire Tree, Mag Ranger if you bought the Supporter Pack, Ice Captain after the day-one text fix. Everyone else is on the hero table with a source count. Do not chase a letter tier on hour one.
Questions
Is Legend of Defenders an idle game?
The store tags include Idler and Tower Defense. Studio posts describe Auto Battle and a hide key. You can also play the waves directly. Both are in the public material.
What should I build first?
The only pairing the pre-launch posts walk through is Cryomancer plus the Fire Tree turret. Everything else is a name on the roster until two sources describe it.
